Assessment of the Conservation Values of Osun Osogbo Sacred Grove, Osun State, Nigeria

Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Nigeria, exhibits significant biodiversity and cultural value. The study identifies 40 tree species with notable diversity indices (Margalef: 19.20; Shannon-Weiner: 2.30), highlighting Celtis zenkeri and Colla hispida as dominant species. Among fauna, Cercopithecus mona was the most frequently observed. The grove's cultural significance includes both use and non-use values attached to its resources. Conservation efforts involve collaboration among government officials, community guards, and traditionalists. Recommendations emphasize assessing high conservation value based on species diversity, ecosystem functions, and services.
