Summary

A significant flow reorganization has been observed in the anthropogenically modified tidal channel network of the southwestern Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna Delta, with the Shibsa channel widening and deepening while the Pussur channel experiences rapid shoaling. This counterintuitive pattern is driven by the Shibsa's capture of a large portion of the Pussur's basin through transverse channels, enhancing its tidal prism despite embankment-driven reductions in basin volume. The study highlights previously unrecognized interactions within interconnected multichannel tidal networks, emphasizing the importance of flow reorganization in response to anthropogenic perturbations.
