Summary

Mobile laser scanning (MLS) technology offers the optimal balance between accuracy and efficiency for documenting historical underground mining adits, which are integral to cultural heritage but pose significant challenges due to limited accessibility and harsh conditions. A comparative study in the Czech Republic found that while MLS outperforms traditional methods, low-cost LiDAR sensors integrated into smartphones can provide basic data for quick preliminary mapping. The research evaluated accuracy, time requirements, and suitability across different adit types, providing practical recommendations for selecting documentation methods based on site-specific conditions.
