Summary
A novel framework for analyzing the Medina of Tunis introduces 'webs' and 'clouds' to Richard T.T. Forman's land mosaic theory, integrating intangible social and subjective elements alongside traditional tangible components. This approach moves beyond conventional preservationist methods, addressing marginalized communities affected by capitalism-driven heritage management and tourism. By combining literature review with landscape fieldwork, the study advocates for an inclusive, sustainable analysis that considers both physical and intangible dimensions of urban landscapes. Applicable to other historic urban areas, this method aims to re-signify medinas across North Africa while embedding sustainable practices in response to climate change challenges.
