Summary
Research reveals that the Romanesque Westminster Hall, a surviving 11th-century structure within the Palace of Westminster and UNESCO World Heritage Site, originally featured a single-span common tie-beam roof—a design consistent with contemporary Continental examples. Despite its historical significance, the hall has been overshadowed by later additions, including 14th-century stonework. This study reconstructs the building's original form using modern surveys, antiquarian records, and archaeological evidence, providing new insights into its architectural evolution.
