Summary

A comprehensive excavation of 22 semi-underground stone chamber tombs from the Goguryeo dynasty, conducted between 2017 and 2019 in Gingoldong, Pyongyang, North Korea, revealed significant insights into the burial practices and architectural techniques of this ancient civilization. The study, focusing on 10 non-frescoed tombs out of 12 in a specific district, identified two distinct regions based on the distribution of these tombs: one approximately 1.5 kilometers east and another about 2 kilometers southeast of Gingoldong. This spatial analysis provides valuable context for understanding the urban layout and social organization of Goguryeo's capital city during its peak period.
