Summary

A study of the Kizhi skerries area in Lake Onego, conducted during July-August 2020 and 2022, revealed that the region exhibits meso-eutrophic conditions with high phytoplankton abundance. The analysis identified a diverse phytocenosis typical of Lake Onego's summer phytoplankton community but noted a significant presence of β-mesosaprobic pollution indicator species, suggesting satisfactorily clean water quality (class 3). While cyanotoxin-producing species were observed, their development was limited. Multi-year data indicated an increase in cyanobacteria, green algae, and euglena algae, contributing to higher total phytoplankton biomass. This proliferation is linked to natural conditions, though further research is needed to pinpoint exact causes.
