Summary

A previously unknown copy of the Holy Service to St. Simeon by St. Sava, dating back to the early 14th century and preserved in Menaion No. 11 at Mount Athos, has been identified as one of the oldest versions of this liturgical text. This manuscript, housed in the St. Panteleimon monastery, contains a unique Prologue Life of St. Simeon not found in any other known version. The study compares its structure and textual variations with later manuscripts, revealing that while it shares features with an expanded 13th-century version, its origins likely predate St. Sava's second visit to Mount Athos (after 1217). The research highlights the significance of this discovery for understanding the manuscript tradition and microchronology of the Service, offering new insights into its evolution.
