Summary

A novel approach to teaching Jongmyo-Jeryeak, a UNESCO-listed Korean ritual music, demonstrates that integrating appreciation, performance, and creation activities significantly enhances students' understanding of its cultural significance. The study proposes a three-tiered educational framework for elementary and middle school students, focusing on musical composition, social context, and modern relevance in the appreciation phase; separate training in music, singing, and dance followed by integrated 'harmony' performances in the performance phase; and advanced lyric-rewriting tasks to deepen engagement with traditional notation systems. This method fosters critical thinking and interdisciplinary connections, positioning Jongmyo-Jeryeak as a versatile tool for both musical education and broader cultural learning.
