Summary

Research on Jeju Island's volcanic terrain reveals key insights into the Soil Conservation Service–Curve Number (SCS–CN) method, which models rainfall-runoff relationships. The study found that the Hancheon Basin's maximum potential retention is approximately 200 mm, with a corresponding Curve Number (CN) of around 65, and an initial abstraction ratio of about 0.3. Notably, antecedent moisture conditions (AMC) significantly influence CN values, showing a clear linear relationship, while maximum potential retention inversely correlates with AMC. The analysis also demonstrated that the SCS–CN model's structure holds for this volcanic basin, providing a framework to estimate runoff and water management in similar environments.
