Summary

A study of Lake Onego's Kizhi Island area revealed that the phytoplankton community exhibits seasonal dynamics with significant development, particularly during spring and autumn. The region is classified as a β-mesosaprobic pollution zone (water quality class 3), indicating satisfactorily clean water. Diatoms and cyanobacteria dominated in spring and autumn, while cyanobacteria, golden, and green algae were prevalent in summer. Silicon concentrations decreased from spring to autumn due to the abundance of diatom algae, and lower nitrogen-to-phosphorus ratios indicated active cyanobacterial production. This intensive phytoplankton vegetation is linked to the area's natural conditions.
