Summary
A long-term equilibrium between eucalypt and native Cerrado species is predicted to emerge after 50 years of natural reforestation in abandoned eucalypt plantations within the Brasilia National Forest, with eucalypts dominating. Field observations indicate that eucalypt species pose no significant threat to adjacent undisturbed Cerrado areas, likely due to the inhibitory effects of native grasses on the dispersal and germination of eucalypt seeds. This conclusion was reached through a discrete event simulation model based on census data from both plantation and native Cerrado areas.
