Summary

Scientists have identified Petrocodon wui, a new species of Gesneriaceae plant endemic to the Danxia landscapes of northwestern Guizhou, China. This lithophyte, characterized by its elongated rhizome and distinct morphological traits—such as elongated peduncle indumentum, unique calyx lobe shape, stamen placement within the corolla tube, and stigma features—differs significantly from its sister species, P. chishuiensis. Molecular evidence supports this classification, distinguishing it from other morphologically similar Petrocodon species. The discovery contributes to the understanding of biodiversity in UNESCO-listed Danxia sites, with detailed taxonomic notes, images, and comparisons provided for scientific reference.
