Summary
An international collaborative urban lab between Manchester and Riga has demonstrated the potential for repurposing waterside districts to create sustainable, distinctive urban spaces. The study involved students from both institutions, who developed design proposals for Kipsala Island in Riga and the Wirral Waters regeneration area in Birkenhead, UK. Through comparative studies, the research identified a series of parameters that frame student and teacher research, highlighting how collaborative design synthesis can prepare Master's students for future careers in academia or practice. This approach underscores the value of international exchange in architectural education, offering a path towards professional development while addressing the unique conditions of each site.
