Summary
Petroglyphs at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tanbaly are threatened by both abiotic and biotic factors, necessitating a comprehensive conservation strategy that integrates geological and geomorphological insights. The study identifies key environmental stressors affecting these ancient carvings, including natural weathering processes and biological activity. Conducted between 2022-2023 under the auspices of the Scientific-Restoration Laboratory 'Island Crimea,' the research involved detailed field and laboratory analyses of petroglyphs across three groups. The findings highlight the critical role of understanding the geological context in preserving archaeological heritage, offering actionable recommendations for conservation efforts.
