Summary

Researchers have identified Mount Masa, a historically significant landmark mentioned in ancient inscriptions and treaties as the northern border of Hellenistic Lycia. The study, based on a 2019 field campaign, matched geographic descriptions from a 2nd-century BCE inscription with modern features like ravines and streams (Hacıosman Deresi and Sarı Dere), pinpointing Mount Masa to today's Hacıosman Dağı. This discovery resolves a long-standing mystery by cross-referencing boundary markers, natural landmarks, and treaty details, providing a precise location for the mount that had eluded scholars despite comprehensive historical records.
