Summary

A new interpretation of the Carian theonym KNDWṢ and an improved understanding of the Lydian origin of ˀRTMWŠ emerges from a detailed analysis of the Aramaic version of the Letoon trilingual. This study reveals that the formal adaptation of Anatolian theonyms in this multilingual inscription follows distinct linguistic patterns, shedding light on the religious and cultural dynamics of Lycia during the Hellenistic period. By comparing the Aramaic text with its Carian and Lydian counterparts, researchers have identified systematic variations that clarify the transmission and transformation of divine names across languages. This approach combines epigraphic analysis with comparative linguistics to reconstruct the historical context of the Letoon sanctuary.
