Summary

Palmyra's ruins, long a subject of fascination for archaeologists and historians, bear the scars of recent ideological struggles, particularly those perpetrated by ISIS during the Syrian conflict. The destruction of cultural heritage sites in 2015 not only inflicted physical damage but also added layers of symbolic significance to the conflict. While global initiatives have emerged to document these damages and plan for restoration, the study highlights that reconstruction cannot erase the historical event responsible for the destruction. This paper examines Palmyra's complex history of ruin and struggle, emphasizing the broader implications of heritage destruction in contemporary conflicts.
