Summary
Preliminary findings from excavations at the Cerro Bayo 2 shelter in Santa Cruz, Argentina, reveal significant human occupation patterns in a strategically located area linking the northern cordilleran region and the western Deseado Massif. The study, conducted by Fernández et al. (2022), identifies distinct occupational phases and activities at this site, which lies near two archaeologically important regions: Pampa del Asador and the Río Pinturas basin. By analyzing multiple lines of evidence—including stratigraphic data, artifact distributions, and spatial patterns—the research provides insights into the temporal dynamics and functional use of the site. These results suggest Cerro Bayo 2 served as a critical hub for human activity, bridging ecological zones and facilitating cultural interactions during prehistoric times.
