Summary

Despite the decline of second-hand bookstores in Tenerife, Spain, due to low profitability and societal resistance to second-hand goods, the librería Tenifer in San Cristóbal de La Laguna persists as a rare example of this business model. Through interviews with its owner and employee, this study reveals that such establishments play a vital role in preserving cultural heritage and fostering sociocultural development, even in an increasingly digital society. The research highlights the economic challenges faced by these bookstores while underscoring their importance in sustaining access to literature, supporting local businesses, and promoting sustainable consumption practices.
