Summary
Structured evaluation and thematic mapping can effectively guide sustainable geotourism development, as demonstrated by the assessment of Štiavnické vrchy in Slovakia. The study introduces a methodology to evaluate geosites based on scientific, aesthetic, cultural-historical, socio-economic, ecological, and safety criteria, identifying those with high, medium, or low tourist attractiveness. It also proposes morphometric indicators to enhance visibility, attractiveness, diversity, and passability of the territory. Recommendations for improving low-attractiveness sites include creating artificial attractions like forest arboretums, museums, and gastronomic facilities, while acknowledging that such measures require significant economic effort. The findings suggest that sustainable development is achievable through long-term investment in trail maintenance and infrastructure.
