Summary
A highly detailed marine substratum map of the Causeway Coast, Northern Ireland, reveals 10 distinct acoustic classes of the seabed, representing the most precise seafloor mapping to date for the region. This achievement was made possible through advanced multibeam swath bathymetry and backscatter data, combined with ground-truthing data collected over four decades. The map integrates terrain indices such as slope and rugosity, along with unsupervised classification techniques, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the seabed's geological and biological characteristics. This innovative approach not only advances our knowledge of this dynamic coastline but also sets a foundation for future geological, biological, and hydrodynamic studies.
