Summary

Archaeological evidence of the Viking expedition to North America, predating Columbus by 400 years, was rediscovered at L'Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland. The study, led by Rudolf Simek, explores the motivations behind this daring voyage—whether driven by adventure, resource scarcity, or other factors—and examines the origins and worldviews of these Norse explorers. It also delves into their nautical expertise and boat design, as well as the historical narrative surrounding their journey, including the Grænlendinga Saga. Additionally, it highlights the 1961 discovery by Helge and Anne Stine Ingstad, which confirmed the Viking presence in North America, while debunking earlier 'Viking Hoaxes' that flourished in the U.S.
