Summary
A significant increase in heat intensity and prolonged heatwaves, particularly in the last three years, has been observed in Kairouan, Tunisia. This study highlights that the city's population, especially those residing in unplanned neighborhoods, is highly vulnerable to these extreme conditions. Adaptation strategies during heatwaves are largely influenced by household income levels, with lower-income populations facing greater challenges. The research combines meteorological data from 1980 to 2023 with a survey of 425 residents, revealing spatial disparities in vulnerability and the socio-economic factors shaping adaptive responses.
