Summary

Four geomorphological landscapes in Southern Iceland exhibit exceptionally high heritage value, scoring between 0.81 and 0.94 for their geoscientific significance due to rarity, representativeness, integrity, and paleogeographic interest. These landscapes also hold substantial aesthetic and cultural value, shaped by volcanic eruptions and glacial advances that have profoundly influenced local populations. Stakeholder interviews revealed a strong awareness of these values among protected area managers, tourism providers, promoters, and local authorities, with societal recognition closely tied to their role as key tourist attractions.
