Summary
Research reveals that rainfall intensity, fissure aperture, and vegetation type are key drivers of dissolved organic matter (DOM) transport and loss in the epikarst fissured soil of South China Karst. The study, using UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and fluorescence analysis, identified five fluorescent DOM fractions and found that most DOM losses are likely protein-like, potentially accelerating phosphorus loss. It also showed that cleaved soils, except for topsoil, have low DOM content, weak aromaticity, and low humification. These findings provide critical insights into nutrient element migration in karst areas, particularly under medium-intensity rocky desertification conditions.
