Summary

Significant coastal transformation in the Danube Delta's Histria region, once an ancient Milesian colony, reveals that the city's decline coincided with its detachment from the open coast due to shoreline progradation. The study, using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning and stratigraphic records, documents intense neotectonic movements causing recent drowning of areas like the Sinoe lagoon and Histria and Nuntasi Lakes. These processes, inferred from discontinuous chronology and discordant stratigraphy, highlight the role of seismic activity in reshaping the coastal landscape over millennia.
