Summary

Molecular barcoding of bryophytes has revealed significant range extensions for four species, challenging established distribution records. Brachythecium baicalense was confirmed beyond the Altai’s Listvyaga Range, while Brachythecium irinae extended its known habitat to the West Taimyr and Putorana Plateau. Additionally, Schistidium grandirete and Schistidium tenuinerve were documented in Yakutia’s Indigirka River basin and the North Urals, respectively. This study leveraged DNA barcoding to identify bryophyte species with high precision, providing critical data for understanding their ecological distribution and conservation status. The findings underscore the importance of molecular techniques in refining biodiversity records, particularly in remote or understudied regions like the Putorana Plateau.
