Summary

Researchers have identified a new species of freshwater shrimp, Caridina danxiaensis, from the UNESCO-listed Danxia Mountain National Nature Reserve in Guangdong, China. This discovery was supported by both morphological and molecular evidence, distinguishing it from other known Caridina species through unique characteristics such as its rostrum, stylocerite, and uropodal diaeresis. Genetic analysis using 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed a sequence divergence of 5.7% between C. danxiaensis and its closest relative, C. clinata, further confirming its distinctiveness.
