Summary
A rare 15th-century Latin-German hymn, 'Salve festa dies,' preserved in isolation within the 'homeless' quaternio Cgm 5249/66, has been contextualized through palaeographic-codicological analysis, revealing its cultural and historical significance. The study employs archaeological methodologies to trace the fragment's origin, classify its use, and determine its functional instrumentation. By comparing it with two complete medieval Latin school manuscripts (Clm 7976 and 19695), researchers uncover insights into the quaternio's historical and functional context, bridging gaps in our understanding of fragmented manuscripts from this era.
