Summary

Local high streets in the UK, often perceived as in decline, play a crucial role in fostering ageing in place and sustaining well-being for older adults. A study on three Edinburgh town centres identified three key domains that enhance older people's well-being: the streetscape, spatial organization and accessibility of amenities and services, and housing provisions that support town centre living. Using qualitative methods, the research highlights the importance of these features in promoting social engagement, mobility, and overall quality of life for older residents.
