Summary
A high correlation (R² = 0.83) between satellite reflectance data from Landsat TM band 3 and water turbidity was identified, demonstrating the potential for accurate, real-time water quality monitoring using remote sensing combined with autonomous sensor platforms. This study addresses a key challenge in water resource management by integrating wireless sensor networks (WSNs) with satellite data to reduce reliance on costly in-situ sampling. The research deployed an energy-autonomous floating buoy equipped with spectroradiometers and turbidity sensors at the Asprokremmos Dam in Paphos, Cyprus, collecting continuous measurements alongside Landsat TM/ETM+ imagery. Regression analysis revealed that TM band 3 provided the strongest correlation with turbidity, offering a scalable solution for monitoring water quality in dams across Cyprus.
