Summary
Urban cultural landscapes, such as the Brâncuși Monumental Ensemble of Târgu Jiu, are perceived differently by individuals based on factors like culture, religion, and personal history. This study reveals that these perceptions can be systematically categorized into distinct themes, including natural features, historical significance, contemporary activities, and emotional connections to place. By employing qualitative interviews, researchers identified seven key perceptual dimensions—natural elements, historical landmarks, cultural events, contemporary human interactions, sense of place, links with the past, and personal memories—that shape how people experience these landscapes. These findings highlight the potential of urban cultural landscapes as valuable resources for sustainable tourism development, offering unique, locally distinct settings that foster both heritage appreciation and economic growth.
