Summary

A sustainable relationship between heritage sites and surrounding communities can be achieved through strategic urban development, enhancing cultural tourism experiences. This study, focusing on the Sphinx Avenue in Luxor, Egypt, demonstrates that integrating UNESCO's principles of sustainable urbanism with thematic indicators for culture by 2030 improves accessibility and visibility of monuments, fostering deeper tourist engagement and community involvement. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, including site visits, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews with tourism companies, to evaluate the urban context and its impact on cultural tourism. Key findings suggest that thoughtful urban planning can create a rich user experience while supporting sustainable development goals.
