Relato e historia en el Camino Real de Tierra Adentro

This study challenges the long-standing academic dismissal of oral historical narratives as apocryphal, demonstrating that such accounts can be reliable and coherent when analyzed within their broader historical contexts. By examining a foundation story from Guanajuato, Mexico, set against the backdrop of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro—a historic trade route—the research reveals a parallel between traditional historiography and oral traditions, suggesting that neither should be disregarded. The approach involves contextualizing narratives to uncover shared themes and coherence, thereby redefining the validity of oral history in scholarly discourse.
