Summary
Península Valdés, Argentina, provides sufficient clam abundance to support migratory shorebirds during their stopover period. The study found that the clams Darina solenoides and Tellina petitiana, particularly those measuring 3–18 mm in length, serve as key trophic resources for these birds. Benthic sampling across three beaches (Fracasso, Blancas, and Colombo) revealed that Fracasso beach offered the most suitable clam sizes for shorebirds, followed by Blancas beach. The research estimates population parameters such as spatial distribution, density, and age structure to assess the region's potential as a foraging site, highlighting its ecological importance for migratory species.
