Summary
A multi-faceted study of ceramic oil lamps from Hellenistic and Early Roman Nea Paphos, Cyprus, reveals significant transformations in local production over time. These changes, observed in lamp shapes, manufacturing techniques, and clay recipes, correlate with shifts in the origin of imported lamps and the influence of other production centers. The findings suggest that these patterns are likely linked to political transformations and urban development in the region. The research integrated macroscopic analysis with advanced techniques such as WD-XRF spectroscopy, thin section petrography, and refiring tests to provide a comprehensive understanding of lamp production and supply dynamics.
