Summary

A novel approach using spherical array microphones has revealed the acoustic characteristics of Pompeii's Roman Amphitheatre, one of the most preserved arenas from antiquity. By analyzing sound intensity through impulse response (IR) overlays on 360° imagery, researchers identified the direction of arriving sound rays without relying solely on structural surfaces. This method offers a new perspective for studying spatial acoustics in historical structures, enhancing our understanding of how ancient architectures influenced sound propagation.
