Summary
Research on Loricariichthys platymetopon at Saraiva Lagoon, Ilha Grande National Park, Brazil, revealed distinct seasonal and spatial patterns in abundance and reproduction. The species exhibited peak relative abundance in February within the middle lagoon section, with reproductive activity concentrated from September to February, ceasing during autumn and winter. High fecundity was observed, averaging 962 oocytes per female (SD ± 382), with notable variation across lagoon sections. These findings suggest adaptive reproductive tactics linked to habitat settlement in the Upper Paraná River floodplain, providing insights into the species' ecological dynamics within a UNESCO-listed site.
