Summary

Revenue sharing projects around Nyungwe National Park (NNP) have significantly contributed to community development, with investments totaling RwF 649.1 million since 2005 yielding a net profit of RwF 66.8 million after one year and an estimated RwF 14.3 billion impact value over 20 years. These projects, funded by the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), have improved local livelihoods through infrastructure development, though some failures were attributed to inadequate monitoring. The study highlights the potential of combining revenue sharing with ecosystem service values to enhance biodiversity conservation and human well-being, recommending increased funding and a special guarantee fund for integrated approaches.
