Labellisation UNESCO… et après ?

World Heritage Site: Lavaux, Vineyard Terraces

Publication Year: 2021

Publication Type: Article

Publication Identifier: WHEA762DD00B5

Summary

A decade after their UNESCO World Heritage Site designation, the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces and Swiss watchmaking urbanism sites show limited additional tourist impact but significant intangible benefits. While quantitative indicators of increased visitation are lacking, the inscription has fostered greater local pride, enhanced media visibility, and opened avenues for territorial development projects. This study, based on a literature review and semi-structured interviews with site managers, reveals that UNESCO recognition primarily strengthens social and symbolic value rather than driving measurable tourist growth.
