Summary

Over three decades, the Society of Investigation of Rupestrian Art in Bolivia (SIARB) developed a comprehensive model for the conservation and management of rock art at Fuerte de Samaipata. This model integrates preventive and curative conservation strategies with community engagement, research, and sustainable tourism practices. Key achievements include the establishment of institutionalized protocols, collaboration with local governments and indigenous communities, training programs for 'guardaruinas' (site guardians) and tour guides, and the implementation of short- to medium-term management plans. The study highlights the importance of scientific and technical approaches in conservation, contrasting them with detrimental interventions by other institutions lacking proper expertise.
