Summary

Removing integral components of traditional Iranian architecture significantly increases energy consumption, highlighting the importance of preserving historical urban systems. A study simulating the Bibi-Roqayyeh House in Yazd found that eliminating neighboring structures, the SABAT (a wind catcher), and high parapets raised total energy use by 21.81%. These elements, though not primarily designed for thermal regulation, play a crucial role in maintaining thermal comfort. The research underscores how improper interventions in historic cities can disrupt sustainable design principles, offering critical insights for conservation efforts.
