Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of a Building Aggregate in the Historical Centre of Florence

World Heritage Site: Historic Centre of Florence

Publication Year: 2024

Publication Type: Conference paper

Publication Identifier: WHEAAEF5FF720

Summary

A seismic vulnerability assessment of the historic centre of Florence reveals that internal courts in masonry buildings significantly influence their seismic behaviour. The study, employing the Vulnerability Index Method and non-linear FEM investigations, identified specific parameters within the GNDT form that describe this vulnerability. It proposes integrating these findings into the GNDT form to better account for local vulnerabilities induced by internal courts in historical buildings. This research contributes to the safeguarding of built heritage, offering insights into the seismic resilience of historic urban centres.
