Summary
Urban expansion in Arequipa is threatening the integrity of pre-Hispanic traditional villages, known for their unique landscapes and cultural heritage. Research reveals that unchecked development is eroding the weak connections between these peri-urban areas, despite their potential as tourist attractions. The study highlights how heritage tourism can serve as a tool for conservation, protection, and sustainable development by integrating these villages into the urban landscape while preserving their architectural and cultural values. By analyzing spatial patterns and historical significance, the research proposes strategies to balance urban growth with the preservation of natural environments and indigenous traditions.
