Summary

A significant discovery of the Chinese sleeper (Perccottus glenii) has been documented for the first time in the Ukrainian portion of the Danube Delta, marking its southernmost record in Ukraine. Two specimens—a male and a female—were captured in a canal near Vilkove, suggesting a potential connection to an established population in Romania’s Danube Delta (Furtuna Lake and Popina pond). This finding expands the known range of this invasive Far Eastern fish species, raising ecological implications for the region's biodiversity. The study relied on field observations and specimen analysis, providing critical data for monitoring invasive species in transboundary water systems.
