Summary
Recent archaeological prospections west of Twyfelfontein, Namibia—a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its dense concentration of rock art—have uncovered a previously unknown landscape with even greater quantities and quality of engravings and paintings than the site itself. This discovery challenges the understanding of the region's cultural significance, particularly in relation to water availability in the arid Namib Desert. The study introduces this new archaeological landscape, highlighting its potential to reshape our knowledge of past human adaptations and artistic expressions in one of the world's most extreme environments.
