Summary

A novel software, the Intelligent Cloud Viewer (ICV), demonstrates unprecedented efficiency in managing large-scale point clouds, enabling real-time processing of tens of millions of points even on standard systems. Developed by AESEI software (a spin-off from Politecnico di Bari), ICV integrates advanced modules for computer graphics, computational geometry, and point cloud analysis, including Open Inventor, CGAL, PCL, and BOOST libraries. Its capabilities—such as georeferencing, decimation, and distance calculations—were validated through a photogrammetric survey of Castel del Monte, achieving over 80% coverage with 800 photos captured in 15 minutes at 90 knots. This breakthrough enhances digital documentation for UNESCO World Heritage Sites, offering a scalable solution for high-precision surveys.
