Summary

China's cultural diplomacy towards Uzbekistan, leveraging the Silk Road legacy, has been strategically designed to respect Uzbekistan's unique political and cultural traditions. Unlike its broader Central Asian approach, this diplomacy relies heavily on top-down initiatives from Beijing, academic institutions in Xi’an, and professional exchanges rather than grassroots interactions. The study highlights how archaeological cooperation and educational diplomacy serve as key tools in fostering Sino-Uzbek relations, contributing new insights to the understanding of Silk Road legacy in Chinese foreign policy and China-Central Asian studies.
