Summary
A high-precision radiocarbon analysis of juniper tree rings from Gordion, central Anatolia, reveals significant agreement with the standard Northern Hemisphere calibration curve (IntCal09) for much of the period ~1729 to 751 cal BC. However, the study identifies potential regional growing-season-related offsets in the Aegean/Anatolian region, particularly during the 9th–8th centuries BC and the later 14th–13th centuries BC, where IntCal09 may not accurately reflect the true radiocarbon record. The typical offset (ΔR) is found to be minor (~2–4 ± 2–4 years), except in periods with additional forcing factors or data issues. This research leverages a final dataset of 128 high-precision measurements, including multiple samples from the 1980s to 2009, to assess calibration accuracy and regional radiocarbon variability.
